Happy weekend all! I hope you all are enjoying the snow that may or may not have finally shown up in your area. I've been working on writing some stuff, getting my crap back together cuz in one week I will be at the Buffalo Flurrious Festival and then on my way back to school!
But more importantly- staples in everyone's wardrobe. If youn own these things, putting together an outfit, however basic can be a snap.
1) Something RED!
More specifically, a red accessory. Red is a good, vibrant color that hardly anyone looks bad in. And a lot of times, your outfit could just use a pop of color. I'm a big fan of red shoes. I own a red trench coat that I absolute love. A purse, a bad, a bracelet, a scarf, just something to add once in a while.
2) A pair of dark colored jeans
They go with everything. And there are those days where you just don't want to put on nice clothes, but dark jeans dress it up a bit. They're slimming and a good fall back item.
3) A Blazer or Cardigan
Especially if you're from Western New York like me. I own a lot of cute shirts, but seven or eight months out of the year, it can be too cold to wear them. So putting a cardigan over a tank top or sundress makes it warmer and year-round wearable! A blazer also dresses up a tshirt and makes it cuter.
4) A basic tshirt
Just plain. No words, whatever color you want. For layering.
5) A comfy pair of casual shoes
Not like running sneakers, but something you can pair with a skirt or jeans. Like high tops or Toms. This can dress down an outfit, make it a little edgier, and you can be comfy walking around your college campus. Your feet will thank you.
6) A good pair of heels
This one should be a given. Heels make your legs look longer and you stand straighter. Make sure you can walk in them though- it sucks to walk back from a party shoe-less
7) A good skirt
Something that you are comfortable in, something to show over your legs and butt. But not too slutty or trashy. It's very easy to make something less whore-ish by adding-
8) Tights!
Damn it, it gets cold! Protect your legs! There is no point in freezing to death, seriously. They keep an outfit classy if your skirt is a bit too short or whatever. Also, colored tights are a great way to add a pop of color to any outfit, or patterned tights make it cool and edgy.
9) A sexy top
Key word here- sexy, not slutty. It's possible to be sexy without looking easy. If anything, it's more sexy to leave something to the imagination. Find something that fits you good, that you like the way you look in, and that you feel good in. Confidence is sexy, but showing off your assets doesn't hurt either.
10) Something off-beat and distinctly you
Everybody needs something they can kind of "trademark" as their own for their style. It doesn't have to be wacky or crazy, but it could be. If you like hats, scarfs, or shoes, find unique ones (a great place to look is thrift stores!). Buy a necklace with your favorite animal. Wear ties. It can be that simple.
Or it can be cooky. I own two pairs of Seasame Street sneakers I wear on my jeans and tshirt days. I own a could goofy animal hats, and I have a pair of obnoxious pumpkin orange tights that I love to wear on cold days.
Do what your comfortable with. You don't have to go to extremes, but step outside your comfort zone, try something new. Find what you like and what works for you, and work it. Have confidence and you can pull off anything.
Stay nerdy and classy. Lots of love,
